Background
The Project Management Resource Manual
Contact
A team from Volunteering Queensland, with support from Brisbane City Council, worked with Kedron Brook Catchment Network community to develop a Project Management Resource Manual to assist bushcare, local groups and individuals in the catchment initiate, deliver and manage projects to protect and improve the local natural environment. The Manual would also be useful for many other catchment, bushcare and community groups. Some people believe that managing projects is a difficult task that only people with academic qualifications can do.
This resource aims to show you that the very people most able to take on conservation projects are the local volunteers and community stakeholders who know the local environment. This resource has been put together for you. Whether you have in mind a project to increase native bee hives, build and install bird nest boxes, or develop environment-related education programs, KBCN embraces your creativity and invites you to see what this comprehensive manual has to offer.
In July 2014, an opportunity arose for KBCB to work with Volunteering Queensland to develop a Project Management Manual applicable to bushcare groups within Kedron Brook Catchment. This manual has the potential to eventually meet the wider interests of like organisations in other Brisbane area catchments.
A very successful workshop with Volunteering Queensland on Sunday 14 September at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre. Members of a representative number of bushcare groups from our catchment were able to contribute and discuss existing needs and future relevant strategies. Information provided by catchment people at the workshop was used to determine the scope, details and layout of the manual. As part of the information content to support this manual, Volunteering Queensland wanted to obtain case studies on relevant past projects carried out in our groups. A form template was developed to help attendees to fill out details of these studies so that they could be used to support the final manual.
Following up on this, a briefing meeting was held in November to consider details to be developed for the manual and to comment on a draft methods manual developed from previous inputs. Attendees at this meeting were able to learn the resources, including advice sheets, addressing matters raised at the workshop, that would make up this manual.
It's taken a great bit of work by the team at Volunteering Queensland to put together all the ideas and case studies assisting this work. Now, we have the manual made into a user ready form. Thanks to all of you from Volunteering Queensland! We are very appreciative of the input and work of all those who have volunteered and anticipate the launch of this manual will support the work by people involved in catchment and bushcare activities.
The sections can be navigated easily throughout the work set in the form of a pdf copy on this website. Links are also provided to other website references and, in particular, to useful proformas and templates listed at the back of the manual. The Project Management Resource Manual was first completed in April 2015.
We welcome receiving your impressions about this manual. For any other queries or comments, please contact our KBCB Vice-President, Philip Rowland, on phone 3260 5779 or
