Who makes this web site? Our web site's history BCC's Online Business & Community Partnership Our web site's aims The future Who makes this web site?Ours is a community web site. It has been developed and is maintained by a range of network volunteers. We welcome contributions to the site's content, and new webteam volunteers. Please contact our committee via the Contact Us form or directly to with any comments or queries. Our website's historyThe KEDRON BROOK CATCHMENT NETWORK (KBCN) web site project was an initiative of a member of one of it's groups, the Grinstead Park Bushcare Group. The web site project was taken up by the network as the advantages of a more comprehensive catchment site were soon apparent. A Brisbane City Council community internet initiative became available. BCC's Online Business & Community PartnershipIn Nov 2000, BCC announced its 'ourbrisbane.com' internet strategy. The strategy encompassed eight programs aimed at ensuring that Brisbane residents and businesses were able to realise the benefits of technology and the Internet. These included:
The Online Business & Community Partnership was developed as a joint initiative of these programs. The program aimed to develop and test a set of online tools to assist community and business groups to get online. In February 2002, sixteen projects were selected to develop partnerships, including ours. The first public release of the network was July 2002, and these partnerships continued up to late 2006. Our web site's aimsThe KBCN web site project was developed by the KBCN as a means to implement the aims of the network.
The Future: A more dynamic & comprehensive siteThe previous server site with "ourbrisbane" was a database file management system operated by Fusion. In late 2006, this arrangement came to an end though this did not finish our splendid assistance from the Brisbane City Council through project funding and staff technical support. We now operate our web site independantly with a more traditional web page mangement system with "server101.com" hosting. On 5 November 2010, the web site changed from being presented in the form of 'html' files to 'php' files. This facilitates use of 'Includes' for header, menu, searchform and footer, thereby allowing convenient future changes to be made to all web pages at the one time. There was also the useful option to code php scripts in the future. The previous vertical menu on the left hand side column was converted to a horizontal navigation bar with pop up secondary menus for each section web page. This improves the relatively old look in the previous navi bar and gives more room in the main column for content. Our web site changes and develops as our network's resources and volunteer's time allow. With time we will continue to upgrade web design and content. We welcome new volunteers and contributors to its operation. Contact
